MPV/SAM Sociodrama and Action Methods Training

Sociodrama - is it for you?

Sociodrama

Sociodrama uses drama to:

  • explore social issues
  • develop greater understanding between groups and individuals
  • problem solve and make decisions
  • experiment and try out new options
  • rehearse new roles and strategies and predict outcomes

Sociodrama is concerned with social learning in a group. A sociodramatist will base their work around an understanding of the roles people play, the systems within which they work and the social forces which impinge on the situation being examined.

Creative Action Techniques such as role plays, doubling, role reversal and mirroring are used in both sociodrama and psychodrama to broaden and intensify the action.

Is It For You?

SOCIODRAMA

  • organisational consultants
  • community workers
  • trainers
  • theatre artists (including those interested in Forum and Playback Theatres)
  • anyone interested in developing a range of creative action methods to use in their work

The summer school attracts participants from several countries and may include qualified practitioners, trainers (for whom it will be CPD), trainees and people who are new to these methods and who wish to have an in-depth introduction.

This year there will be two streams and participants can opt for either the sociodrama or playback theatre stream. The workshops will be experiential. Each session will have a warm-up, a period of action, some sharing and processing for learning.
